B201/08 - INTERVENTIONS AT THE INLETS OF THE VENETIAN LAGOON TO REGULATE THE TIDAL FLOWS - MALAMOCCO MOUTH - ENVIRONMENTAL REHABILITATION MEASURES 1st STEP
The project had as objective the environmental rehabilitation of areas affected by construction activities, either through the rehabilitation and restoration of the morphology of the land, so that even the spontaneous recolonization by herbaceous coenosis, but especially by the planting of tree and shrub species, selected from those typical of Veneto coastal environments.
Maximum attention has been given to the location of the plants, to obtain the proper integration of lands temporarily affected by construction activities, with surrounding natural environment. This also aimed at limiting the invasion, always possible in the case of areas affected by construction, by extremely invasive alien species such as Robinia, Ailanto, Amorphous fruticosa or Acer negundo.
All this in order to reach the largest possible balance between different plant components, through a correct choice of species and aggregations between them, even to encourage the development of the natural dynamics of these habitats. Were planned areas almost exclusively covered by shrub in order to maintain the landscape and encourage related wildlife, currently present in different areas of this area.
In inner areas, however, was provided for the planting of woodland coenosis related to the composition of deciduous hardwood forests common in the coastal zone, in order to give greater consistency to the forest area.
The project also planned an area with herbaceous cover, already present in the past, within which you will create a small parking area for visitors.
B71/06 - CONSERVATION AND RESTORATION OF THE COAST OF VALLEVECCHIA - CAORLE (VE)
The project consisted of renaturalization of retro dunal wetlands and implementation of support works for the rehabilitation of coastal dune belt through the use of bioengineering techniques. The project was part of planned operations within the project LIFE-Nature 2003 "Concerted efforts to safeguard the coastal Veneto" by Veneto Agriculture. Inside were carried out two main intervention lines:
-
Restoring the retro dunal wetlands: excavation and modeling following natural profiles across the strip of wetlands behind the first strip of coastal dunes, with plant clumps of Molinia arundinacea and Juncus sp.;
-
Consolidation of the first dune facing the sea through the positioning of one or two sets of charm or a palisade in sectors more prone to erosion.

International Site of Interest - Porto Marghera
Investigation activities, conducted by SELC regarding the dynamics of aquifers connected with the operations in the SIN Porto Marghera on behalf of the Consorzio Venezia Nuova - Water Authority of Venice, were concluded. The aim of the project was to provide insights for the management of the works already undertaken and to direct the design of new interventions. |
Investigations at the mouth of the Lido of Venice
At the pier south of the mouth of the Lido of Venice were conducted soil tests and characterization of marine sediments (DGRV 1019/2010) , with running of geognostic and CPTU investigations from platform to -30m deep. Samplings were carried out by boat by using a hydraulic vibrocorer; the samples were subsequently analyzed with regard to chemical, microbiological and geotechnical's aspects. |

Monitoraggio CORILA
In 2011 the collaboration between SELC and CORILA was continued for monitoring the terrestrial vegetation, the seagrasses and the terrestrial insects in the Venice lagoon. |
MITO2000 in Friuli Venezia Giulia Region
During 2012 Spring will be made the third year of monitoring of breeding birds, conducted according to the methods of the project MITO2000, on behalf of the Friuli-Venezia Giulia Region. The survey will be done in more than 300 point counts. |
Water Framework Directive (Direttiva Acque 2000/60)
As part of biological monitoring carried out on behalf of the Veneto Region-ARPAV for transitional environments, SELC had conducted during 2011 assessments on the state of quality of the Lagoon of Venice for the zoobenthic component. |
New Bioengineering activities
Experimental transplant of seagrass (Cymodocea nodosa and Zostera marina) in the lagoon of Venicewas completed. The operations were carried out using servo-assisted methods and clumps of large (> 1 square meter). The surgery was successful and ongoing monitoring showed high rates of colonization and low mortality.
