Geographical Information Systems developed within monitoring projects, environmental studies and biodiversity studies

GIS – Mapping of lagoon‘s underwater areas and marine areas

  • GIS – Monitoring of colonization processes by macrozoobenthic and macrophytobentic taxa (tidal flats), along transects, by means of visual census from boat, collection of sediment samples in order to determination of the sediment stability with production of maps (1:2.500).
  • GIS – Mapping of seagrasses populations and macroalgae distribution (total area over 130 ha) by means of surveys conducted by carrying out “on demand” reliefs from the boat, along paths planned on the basis of the analysis of aerial photographs and on the basis of the actual vegetation distribution; production of a map of the distribution of macroalgae (coverage, thickness, biomass) and taxonomic identification of the main species and of their main parameters (coverage, thickness and biomass).
  • GIS – underwater monitoring, geo-referenced (DGPS) reliefs and production of the seagrasses map (1:5000 – GIS environment) present in the vicinity and inside the Lido, Malamocco and Chioggia inlets.
  • GIS – underwater monitoring, geo-referenced (DGPS) reliefs and production of the Seagrasses map and of the macroalgae map (1:50000 – GIS environment) for the entire Lagoon of Venice.
  • GIS – underwater monitoring, geo-referenced (DGPS) reliefs and production of the seagrasses map (1:10000 – GIS environment) present in the vicinity of the three inlets.
  • GIS – Collection and analysis of available data concerning the chemical and physical characteristics of the Venice Lagoon sediments; determination of the biological habitability and identification of homogeneous areas within well categorized domains by means of GIS analysis tools.
  • GIS – survey of aquatic habitats (tidal flats) by means of underwater monitoring, geo-referenced (DGPS) reliefs and production of the seagrasses map and of the macroalgae map (1:10000 – GIS environment).

GIS – mapping of terrestrial areas and of Land Cover

  • GIS – phytosociological survey and collection of the main vegetation parameters for the salt marshes and reeds with production of vegetation maps (1:5000 – GIS environment).
  • GIS – Monitoring of the terrestrial vegetation (floristic and phytosociological data) by detailed reliefs on areas of interest and production of the plant communities map (1:1000 – GIS environment).
    GIS – Terrestrial vegetation survey and production of the plant communities map (1:5000 – GIS environment).
  • GIS – completion of the map of the actual vegetation for the entire Venice Lagoon salt marshes system (1:5.000 – GIS environment).
    GIS – digitization of the historical map (1930) of the Lagoon of Venice, with production of the digital land use map of the open lagoon (coastal excluded) and of fish farms (1:25,000 – GIS environment).
  • GIS – Production of the plant communities map (1:2000– GIS environment).
  • GIS – Extensive survey with collection of elevation and vegetation data on the salt marshes system in the Lagoon of Venice. Production of a GIS containing the surveyed points and all the related data (altitude, height growth (statistics) for each plant community type, syntaxa of reference, dominant species, morphological features).
  • GIS – georeferenced DGPS survey and production the map of the colonies and of the transepts made (GIS environment).
  • GIS – Terrestrial vegetation survey and production of the plant communities map (1:5000 – GIS environment).
  • GIS – Salt marshes vegetation survey and production of the plant communities map (1:2500 – GIS environment).
  • GIS – Terrestrial vegetation survey in the range of 100 meters from investigated areas and production of the plant communities map (1:2000 – GIS environment).
  • GIS – Georeferencing (DGPS equipment) of the birds listening points and production of habitat maps within 140 meters from each point, in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia Region.
  • GIS – Environmental Monitoring (before, during and after construction) for the Pedemontana Veneta Highway (Veneto Region – ITALY). Soil surveys and production of the soil map (1:500 – GIS environment).

Databases and inventories

As part of the many long-term studies conducted, relating to land and marine environmental components, were designed and built databases and geo-databases (GIS environment) that substantial reorders large amounts of data. The main Eco-databank include: birds, benthic communities, seagrass and macroalgae, terrestrial vegetation and habitat.
